Ruth is a professional visual artist working and living on the Kent coast. Formerly an early years’ teacher Ruth studied at Kent Institute of Art and Design, in Canterbury, obtaining a BA(Hons) in Fine Art, in 2005.
Ruth came from a large, bohemian family and spent her childhood growing up in a rambling house in London and in the holidays, in their caravan on a Sussex farm. A very close bond existed with her brothers and sisters and they revelled in the freedom to be creative, to discover and explore.
Ruth courts anachronism and the desire to enter into private worlds and voices, allied to a poetic and romantic nature, fashions and informs her work. The proximity of the reckless sea, the derelict Folkestone Harbour Station and the historically interesting surrounding area, continue to be pivotal themes. Although, quiet and contemplative in nature, she is a campaigning individual, fierce in the protection of her art, which itself is often a memorial to forgotten souls; a battling crusader against the advancing bulldozing of sensitivity and the individual’s place in time.

Although Ruth loves to paint, exploring colours and shapes, with any medium, she is happiest working on her installations, and especially with children, under the open sky. Ruth believes that children are often underestimated and she delights in their spontaneity, inspiration and unique perception of the world.
