Inspiring young people through the arts is an important element of the project and in March 2008 I carried out a series of project related art workshops. The chosen theme for this series was ‘Architecture’.

With the children and their teacher we visited the exterior of the Royal Pavilion Hotel, we compared the architecture of the Grand Burstin with its hybrid the Grand Burstin Hotel. We discussed Edward Lear, a former visitor to the old hotel, and we looked at the Nonsense Poetry and pictures of the author himself.
On arrival back at the school we designed nonsense buildings, e.g. ‘Aunt Jobiska hotels’.
The children’s work was then placed on display in the Grand Burstin Hotel for one month. It was featured in the Kentish Express and the Creative Quarter magazine.
